Mini-mills was a series I created for the 2019 Confetti Bazaar — I’d been working in the Pepperell Mill for over a year at Banded Brewing and recently acquired a studio space in Building 17. Walking around the mills, I have become enthralled with the lines and shapes of their architecture and their rich character. To me, the mills represent Biddeford’s history, present, and future of creative entrepreneurship. They are hubs for aspiration, creativity, and collaboration. Over time, this series developed to include other businesses and buildings in the area that to me stand out as iconic for one reason or — places that evoke memories, potential for growth, or just plain aesthetic fascination. All works are created on a small scale — each image being no more than 3.5″x3.5″– using archival ink pens and Bristol or high-quality watercolor paper.
